Edward Martin, born on March 13, 1950, in Honesdale, PA, devoted his career to helping children. After working in the juvenile probation department and child welfare office, he became an elementary school counselor, providing support to students from grades K-6. During his 12 years with the agency, Edward worked with foster children, abused children, and those in placement. He also served as a supervisor of the county group home and child abuse supervisor.

In addition to his counseling work, Edward channeled his passion for children into writing children’s books. His books covered various themes, from playful and fun stories to bibliotherapy for issues like bad dreams, separation anxiety, and a parent leaving home. One of his books was inspired by his experience helping a first-grade boy with selective mutism. Throughout his life, Edward’s dedication to children extended beyond his career, as he raised two sons with his wife Barb and cherished his role as a proud grandparent to Liam and Amelia. He continues to reside in White Mills, PA, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of children through his counseling and literary contributions.

In Joseph ,Froggy & Mrs. Slattery there is a part in which Joseph and Mr. Carter (the school counselor) are reading jokes to Joseph’s first grade class. This is a picture taken of us when we did that. If you look carefully you will see Froggy peeking out from behind my paper!!

I can’t quite make out what book I’m reading to the students. It looks like a kindergarten classthey look a bit “lively”. Whenever I taught my guidance lessons I had to teach two classes at a time due to time constraints. I always caught a case of the “giggles” when I was in kindergarten as they always said something to make me laugh!

An important guidance lesson in second grade dealt with what they thought they would like to do when they grew up. This chart breaks down all the different types of jobs into career clusters.

It’s apparently near Christmas (see the snowman hanging from the ceiling the upper left of the picture) and this looks like a second grade classroom. I don’t recall what this particular visit was about but the three white posters on the board were probably mine. The best part of my job was teaching my guidance lessons and interacting with the students.

One of the neat things about working in a primary school is all the fun stuff you get to dothis is just an example.

It was probably “wear a silly hat day”. It looks like some kind of card I’m reading, possibly from the student sitting near me or maybe from the whole class.

This looks like a learning support classroom and they’re playing some kind of fishing game. The teacher took a picture and sent it to me with a note “THANKS FOR JOINING US.”

Playing some kind of villain!!
